What worn, cupped and leaking tires tell you
A tire gives plenty of warning before it quits. Tread worn smooth across the middle or down to the wear bars means it is done gripping wet pavement. A bulge or a crack on the sidewall means the cords inside are hurt, and that tire should not stay on the car. A pressure light that keeps coming back on every cold morning usually points to a slow leak, not bad luck.
Wear that shows up on just one edge, or in patches that feel like a washboard, says something else is going on behind the wheel. Driving around Providence potholes and frost-heaved streets is hard on all of it. Bring the car to 299 Allens Ave and the mechanic will look at the whole tire, not just the one spot you pointed at.
